Dorothy Ozimek Obituary
Dr. Dorothy Ozimek, R.N., Ed.D., 101 years old, passed away, peacefully August 20, 2024. Born in Bayonne, she lived in Hillsdale and Cranbury, New Jersey, and eventually settled with her sister, Alice, in Miramar Beach, Florida for the past eighteen years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Marianne; siblings, Edward, Elizabeth, and Alice; brother-in-law, Andrew; and nephews, Drew and Claude.
Dorothy is survived by and loved by nieces, Marianne, Natalie, and Susan; nephew Daniel; and brother-in-law, Lawrence; grand nieces, Michelle, Jeannine, Samantha, and Lauren; grand nephews, Ryan, Shawn, Christopher and Kevin; great nieces, Claire and Lillian; and great nephews, Jacob, Andrew, Jarrett, Phifer, and Grant.
She has made a significant contribution to nursing through her educational accomplishments, innovative leadership, and professional commitment. She has both earned and received honorary doctorate degrees in education from Columbia University. Dorothy was a professor at Seton Hall University for eleven years, as well as Assistant Dean. She was Director of the National League for Nursing Department of Baccalaureate and higher education for fourteen years, and Dean of the Department of Nursing at Fairleigh Dickinson University for six years.
She has made many contributions to the nursing profession. Dorothy has served on the board of directors for the New Jersey State Nurses' Association, was president of the Nurses' Educational Scholarship Fund, has written a published textbook on nursing leadership and over twenty articles, served on the Editorial Board of Nursing and Healthcare, addressed professional audiences, and has given consultation throughout the United States and Canada, relating to professional education and practice.
Her persuasive encouragement led to both sisters, Alice and Betty, and niece, Marianne, to careers in nursing; nephew, Dan, a paramedic; and her grand niece, Lauren, and grand nephew, Christopher, as physicians in the medical field. Her grand nieces, Michelle and Jeannine, also achieved doctorate degrees due to her inspiration. This made her so proud.
Her love for family went above and beyond. Everyone should have an Aunt Dorothy in their life to love and support them.

Dorothy was my first instructor in nursing at Seton Hall in 1958 and I have never forgotten her . She was an ideal to strive for in life. So sorry to hear that she lived so close to me and I never knew it. Irene Gasior Fisher , class of 1962 at Seton Hall.
