Elisabeth "Liz" Everts, passed away on August 23, 2025, in
Denver, Colorado after fighting valiantly against pancreatic cancer. She was 59.
Born on May 24, 1966, in Detroit, Michigan, Liz brought warmth, wit, and wisdom to every chapter of her life. Liz grew up in the Detroit area and was a cute and quiet child, often following her big sister's lead. She moved with her family to Bonn, Germany in 1973, and after her parents separated, she lived in Indiana with her mother and sister. While in high school, she was a camp counselor at Camp Eberhart in Michigan for two summers - where she made unforgettable memories and lasting friendships.
A graduate of Clemson University with a degree in English Literature, Liz channeled her love for language into a dynamic and varied career. She contributed her talents to a range of organizations including, but not limited to: Dolch Computer Systems, Sterling Rice Group, O'Brien Advertising, Celestial Seasonings, Sopris West Education Materials, Xcel Energy, SlimGenics, the City of Westminster, and the City of Lakewood. Her professional journey reflected not only her versatility but also her creative spirit and dedication to meaningful collaborative work. She lived and worked across the country - from California to Georgia - before settling in Colorado. She made lifelong friends at each and every stop along her journey.
An avid reader, Liz was known for her sharp intellect and boundless sense of humor. A passionate follower of current events and politics, she was always ready with thoughtful insights and spirited conversation - often voicing her outrage at the current administration and the people who enable their actions. Her cleverness was only matched by her compassion. She was especially passionate about mental health issues and those who are unable to advocate for themselves. Liz was always kind and accepting. She had an uncanny ability to connect people, often playing matchmaker, and offered advice that was both wise and heartfelt. To know Liz was to be welcomed into her circle with open arms and laughter.
Liz loved animals and had great affinity with training dogs. She was also an amazing sleuth, and could dig up dirt on anyone, especially those interested in dating a friend. She also found joy in the water - swimming brought her peace and she cherished visits to the ocean with her husband, James. These moments reflected her deep appreciation for beauty in the world around her.
Liz is survived by her devoted husband, James Banks, and their beloved dog, Gertie; her sister, Alison Everts-Canjar and brother-in-law, Phil; many nieces and nephews including, but not limited to, her niece, Tayler Canjar (Simon) and nephew, Jordan Canjar; as well as many, many treasured friends whose lives were brightened by her presence. Liz was preceded in death by her mother, Elaine Everts.
A celebration of Liz's life will be held on Sunday, October 19th at the Lakewood Cultural Center, 470 S Allison Pkwy, from 1pm-4pm, in Lakewood, Colorado.
