Elizabeth Martin, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Buffalo, New York, she later settled in Poughkeepsie, the community she cherished and called home for the rest of her life. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1961 and went on to build a life filled with love, laughter, and deep connections.
She was one of five children, growing up with her beloved siblings: sisters Rose, Maureen, and Pam, and her brother James, who predeceased her. She later became the proud mother of Michael and Lisa, and her family grew to include two grandchildren, Tayne and Tahlia, and one great-granddaughter, Liliana, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy.
For many years, Elizabeth worked at Vassar College, where she was known for her dedication, warmth, and friendly spirit. She built lasting relationships with colleagues and students alike, always greeting others with kindness and a smile. Outside of work, she was blessed with an amazing circle of friends who were like family to her, sharing in life's joys and challenges side by side.
Elizabeth had a gift for making life beautiful. She loved shopping for special treasures, tending to her gardens, and decorating her home with care and creativity. She shared countless laughs and memories with her many friends, and her pets always held a special place in her heart. Her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor could light up any room, bringing joy and laughter to all who knew her.
Elizabeth's life was filled with love, laughter, and simple joys, and her presence will be deeply missed. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, humor, and a home where everyone felt welcome. She is now reunited with her beloved brother James and her daughter Lisa, embraced once again in their love.
