Floretta (Flo) Roye
Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Floretta (Flo) Roye peacefully
transitioned to her eternal home with the Lord on December 17, 2024, at the age of 77,
surrounded by family and close friends after a long illness.
Flo was born on April 11, 1947, in Slab Fork, West Virginia, to the late Woodrow and
Rosie (Moore) Johnson. She was the sixth of nine children and grew up in a loving
household where faith was foundational.
Flo graduated from Stratton High School in Beckley, West Virginia, in 1965. She
accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Rev. Henry Blunt at Jerusalem
Baptist Church in Sparta, VA. Her walk with the Lord was unwavering, and her faith
guided every aspect of her life. Flo served diligently in various ministries, including the
hospitality committee, the youth choir, and was the Chairperson of the Deaconess
Board. When she later joined Mount Zion Baptist Church, she continued her
commitment as a devoted Deaconess, volunteering countless hours in service to God
and her church family. Flo worked as an Accruals Coordinator for INOVA Health
Systems for over twenty years before retiring.
Flo's life was a testament to her love for the Lord. She was known for her warm spirit,
servant's heart, and her unwavering dedication to lifting others through prayer, kindness,
and support. Whether preparing meals, caring for others, or mentoring young believers,
Flo worked humbly and faithfully for the glory of God until her health no longer allowed.
Flo married Robert Roye, and from this union, two children were born: Tracy and Robert
Jr. Her family was a central part of her life, and she passed on her faith and values to
her children and grandchildren, ensuring her legacy of love and devotion to God would
continue for generations.
She was predeceased by her parents, Woodrow and Rosie Johnson; brothers Charles
and Jerry Johnson; and sisters Dorothy, Norma Jean, and Estelle Johnson.
She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Gore (Triangle, VA); her son, Robert Roye Jr. (Kimberly) of Mount Pleasant, SC; and her cherished grandchildren, Adrian, Alisha, and
Alex Gore, as well as Micah and Harper Roye. She also leaves behind her sisters,
Annie Johnson (Bowie, MD) and Loretta Johnson (Upper Marlboro, MD); her brother, Steve Johnson (District Heights, MD); son-in-law Dion Gore; and a host of nieces and
nephews; and an abundance of church family members and dear friends.
Flo's unwavering faith, generous spirit, and deep love for her Lord and Savior touched
the hearts of everyone she encountered. She will be deeply missed but joyously
remembered for the life of service and devotion she lived.
A celebration of Flo's life and faith will be held at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 18410
Chapel Dr., Triangle, VA, on Friday, January 3rd, at 11 a.m.
