Dr. Francis Howard Cost, Jr. 87 of Hagerstown, MD died Monday, April 7, 2025 at Homewood of Williamsport.
Born in Hagerstown on September 24, 1938, he was the son of the late Francis H and Mary (Settles) Cost.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, where he was active in various areas of the church.
Howard graduated from the Mercersburg Academy, Gettysburg College and the University of Maryland Medical School. He completed an internship at Mercy Hospital, a medical residency in the Public Health Hospital in New York and the University Hospital in Baltimore.
He went on to complete a Cardiovascular Fellowship at the University Hospital in Baltimore and a Pulmonary Fellowship at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. He also completed a Nuclear Cardiology Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital and a Fellowship in Intensive Care Medicine also at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Howard was the recipient of a NIH Research Grant at Moffitt Hospital in San Francisco, CA, he practiced nuclear and cardiology at Moffitt Hospital, and later at the Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
He was Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and a member of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Cardiology.
Howard is survived by one cousin Carolyn English of West Virginia.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Rose Hill Cemetery 600 South Potomac Street, Hagerstown, MD with Rev Dr. James R. Brooks officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD.
