Gary Galati Obituary Gary A. Galati, 76, of Steers Road, Perth, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, with his family by his side. He was born in Newburgh, NY, on October 10, 1947, to the late Ezio and Margaret Galati.
Gary grew up in Newburgh, NY, where he graduated from Newburgh Free Academy. He then received a mathematics degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a law degree from Albany Law School. Gary practiced law in Newburgh for almost 50 years, specializing in real estate and estate law. Following his retirement in 2022, he relocated to Perth, NY, to be closer to his immediate family and to live next door to one of the joys of his life, his beautiful granddaughter, Evelynn.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Diane, and their two children, Keith and Brian, as well as Brians wife, Carrie, and their daughter, Evelynn. He is also survived by his brother Mark and his wife, Marge, and their two children, Michael and Julie, and their families. Additionally, he is survived by his sister-in-law Maureen Hargraves and his nieces Heather Galage, Danielle Pelsue, Amy Doce, and Erin Blanco, and their families, and his brother-in-law Dr. Ronald Hargraves and his wife, Julie, and their two children, Erik Burket and Emily Hancock, and their families. Gary is also survived by many friends, some of whom have been a constant presence in his life since childhood. Gary is predeceased by his brother Stephen A. Galati.
Gary was well-loved by all who knew him. He excelled at baseball in high school and later in softball leagues through his 20s and 30s, receiving many accolades for his talent on the field. His passion for the sport continued as he played well into his 40s. He also enjoyed racquetball and golf in his younger years, but what he loved most was teaching his love of these sports to his boys, as well as to the youth in his community as their coach. He knew how to have fun on the diamond, on the court, and on the green (and in the sand trap). He was also never afraid to embarrass himself (and his family) with karaoke (aka Garyoke) during the many parties he hosted at his house. He found joy in creating puzzles, riddles, and trivia games with his brilliant mind to stump all of his guests. Super Bowl parties wouldnt have been the same without him.
Gary was a loving and compassionate husband and father and a very loyal friend. His pride in his work, his leadership, and his generosity will never be forgotten. He touched countless lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Gary had Type 1 Diabetes and lived a very full lifelonger than many who were diagnosed as young as he was. Any donations should be directed to Breakthrough T1D at https://www.breakthrought1d.org (formerly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).
