Gary Wayne Sawyer, 70, of Holton, KS, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Holton Community Hospital. He was born on May 7, 1954 in Orangeburg, SC, the son of Eugene A. "Gene" and Lucille E. (McKim) Sawyer.
Gary graduated from Holton High School in 1972. For over 53 years he owned and operated Sawyer Custom Building & Remodeling serving the Holton and surrounding communities. He was a member of the Holton First Baptist Church, where he served as Senior High School Sunday School Teacher for 10 years. Gary was also Treasurer of Veteran Defenders, and a former member of the Optimist Club.
He loved to spend time as a "Hobby Farmer" and watching and attending Nascar Races. Most of all, he enjoyed his grandchildren's sporting events.
Gary married Janine Sue Arnold on March 10, 1973. They celebrated over 51 years of marriage together.
Survivors include his wife, Janine of the home; a son, Michael Sawyer (Korey) of Holton, KS; a daughter, Kelli Larson (Eric) of Maple Grove, MN; 2 sisters, Sharon Bowser (Allen) of Holton, KS and Terri Morris of Holton, KS; a brother, Jerry Sawyer (Deb) of Ft. Collins, CO; 2 grandchildren Landon Sawyer and Allison Larson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with burial following at Holton Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Holton Touchdown Club or Holton High School Baseball c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS, 66436.
