Gary Robert Yurich, whose laughter and joy were as contagious as his love for comic books, embarked on his final adventure on February 19, 2024, at St. Joseph Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan, just shy of his 66th birthday.
Born the youngest of six on February 21, 1958, in Detroit to Carl and Florence Yurich, Gary was a much-needed breath of peace and calm in the Yurich family. He was endlessly creative, with his shy exterior hiding the vibrant world of his mind, and he latched onto comics and reading as his favorite forms of expression.
At Clawson High School, where he graduated in 1976, Gary was a dedicated member of the marching band as a cornet player. Later, he turned his gaze towards understanding the human mind, achieving a bachelor's degree in psychology from Oakland University.
Gary lived a quiet life in Downtown Royal Oak and worked for over 20 years with Macy's, most recently at Somerset Mall, where he was known for his work ethic and ability to make any day brighter. Those who had the pleasure of working with Gary remember him as the first to offer a smile, a kind word, or a hilarious story that would leave everyone in stitches.
The former Eagle Scout was a selfless and generous character who cared deeply for his friends and family. Those who knew Gary could not help but be changed by his view on the world, especially his outlook towards being kind to others above all else.
Gary will be forever remembered by his loving sister, Susan Roe, his adored nieces, and nephews - Brad (Andrea) Conley, Karrie (Tom) Delavan, Jason Roe, Tara (Matt) Gignac, Shannon (Sam) Copperman - and the chorus of great nieces and nephews who brightened his world. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings Jimmy, Ken, Judy Conley, and Terry Yurich, Gary's memory will forever be a source of happiness for all who knew him.
Join us as we celebrate Gary's remarkable journey on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 10 AM for memorial visitation, and a memorial service at 11 AM at Clawson United Methodist Church 205 N Main St, Clawson, Michigan 48017.
In lieu of flowers, Gary's compassionate spirit can be honored through memorial donations to Leader Dogs for the Blind.
Rest in peace, Gary, and may your next adventure be as extraordinary as you.
