George Evrit, Jr. Obituary
George Washington Evrit, Jr., age 87, of Canton, passed away in his home on November 23, 2023. George was born on February 9, 1936, and grew up in Massillon, Ohio. As a young boy and teenager, George was very involved at the Massillon Boys Club. He loved to play baseball, basketball, table tennis, shoot archery, and show his strength at boxing. George was the Massillon Boys Club "Boy of the Year" in 1951. He graduated from Washington High School in 1954. George proudly served in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge in 1961. He retired from Massillon State Hospital as a Carpenter. George was an amazing craftsman of wood, and you could always find him in his workshop at home creating a masterpiece. Several of his loved ones are privileged to own his creations and will always remember him when they look upon them. George also loved to golf, bowl, fish, play bingo, and had an extensive coin collection. He was a master at each of his hobbies. In his later years, he also constructed several model airplanes.
George is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 37 years, Shirley A. Evrit, who passed away on October 29, 2023, his parents, George W. Evrit, Sr. and Dorothy G. (Hagy) Evrit Weisend, his stepfather, Leonard E. Weisend, his sister, Cherie Diotale, his brother Richard Evrit, and daughter, Kathi Lynn Weber. George is survived by his daughters, Amy Georgeann Mingo (Lance) and Kathy Fraley (John), along with sons, Tim Delap (Mary Jo), Gerald Beall, Jr. (Denise), Samuel Beall (Lisa), David Beall (Jill), son-in-law, William Weber, and brother-in-law, Ed Weisend (Sherry). He will be remembered by his many grandchildren and great grandchildren who will get to hear so many great stories, and by his many nieces and nephews that he so dearly loved. Cremation has taken place in keeping with George's wishes and his ashes will be buried together with his sweetheart, Shirley's, ashes, at a private family ceremony at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. The burial date is pending.
