George T. Gore passed away September 6th at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago after a lengthy battle with Lymphoma.
He was born October 30, 1966, in Hinsdale, IL to Arthur and Marion (Tanner) Gore. The family moved to Morris in 1973 where he attended Saratoga School.
He graduated Morris High School with class of 1984 as an honor student. He received a 4-year Navy ROTC Scholarship to Vanderbilt Univ. where he graduated with a B Sc. Engineering in 1988.
He attended Supply Officer training in Athens, GA and then served as a supply officer in the Navy from 1988 to 1994, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan for 2 years with the USS Reeves. When at sea he was able to visit many Pacific ports, including Australia. In Oct 1989, the ship was accidently bombed by friendly fire. There were a few injuries but no fatalities. The ship was then based in Honolulu, Hawaii for 2 years in overhaul. He signed on for another 2 years and was stationed at a U.S. base in Edsel, Scotland. From there he was able to visit some European cities and countries when on leave.
He returned to Illinois and enrolled at Illinois State University. He received a B. Sc. in Education and Business. After graduating from Illinois State, he taught at Bloomington, IL High School and Waverly, IL Jr. High School. He returned to Morris in 2006.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Morris, the Grundy County Historical Society, and the Illinois Audubon Society. George was passionate about helping his church, community and people who needed a "hand up".
George is survived by his mother Marion, sister Ann (Brett) Goodwin and nephews Joshua and Ryan Goodwin of Waldron, IN. He was preceded in death by his father Arthur in Jan. 2019 and his aunt, Dorothy Gore in June 2020.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Saturday September 13, 2025, at 11:00 am at Evergreen Cemetery in Morris, officiated by Rev. James Friesen. Memorials may be made in George's name to either First Presbyterian Church of Morris or We Care of Grundy County.
