GREENSBORO - Gerald Allen Morgan, age 84, was called to his heavenly home on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Hospice Home at High Point.
He was born on November 30, 1940, and was the son of the late Walter Hoyle and Thetus (Howard) Morgan of High Point. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1959 and earned a degree in Religion and History from High Point College in 1962. After attending seminary at Duke University, he earned his master's degree in education from UNC-Greensboro in 1972.
After completing his education, he taught 8th grade for two years at Wallburg School. In 1966, he joined his dad in what would become his career at Morgan's Expert Fence Company where he remained until retirement.
As a resident of this area all of his life, Gerald served as organist for Calvary Methodist Church and Covenant Church United Methodist. His faith was strong in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and all that knew him experienced his loyalty and honesty. He was a trusted friend to many.
He had a lifelong interest in small game hunting and target shooting. He enjoyed and was skilled in different types of target shooting but excelled in Skeet and Trap. At one time he held the state record for breaking 200 targets in a row at a registered trap match. He was an active member and faithfully served on the board of directors and as groundskeeper for many years for PHA target club. He also served on the board of directors for 16 years at Rowan County Wildlife Association.
In August of 1960, he married the love of his life, Polly Moss, and they just celebrated their 65th anniversary. Gerald loved to talk about his family ancestry on both his paternal and maternal sides. Family was always near and dear to him and he always looked forward to family reunions where he could spend time with his many relatives and extended family. He enjoyed his role as family historian. One of his favorite places to visit was the Morgan "homeplace" in Farmer, NC. It brought him much peace just to be there and relive past memories of squirrel hunts and family gatherings. He was a kind and soft-spoken man, who will be tremendously missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his only sister, Judy Biber; and an infant son, Thomas Morgan.
He is survived by his loving wife, Polly Moss Morgan of the home; two sons, Tyler Morgan and wife Leigh, of Greensboro, and Travis Morgan and wife, Sunny, of High Point; one granddaughter, Kayla Morgan; brother-in-law, Dan Biber; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral service celebrating Gerald's life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Covenant Church United Methodist with Rev. Darren Alexander officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery.
