Born to Walter and Selena Threadgill on April 3rd, 1945, in Wilmington, Delaware, Jerry was a devoted patriot, serving his nation with honor and distinction. He graduated from the United States Military Academy, earning a Bachelor of Science, before commissioning into the U.S. Army Infantry in 1967. Over a career spanning 25 years, Lt. Col. Jerry was an exceptional leader devoted to the soldiers under his command. Jerry continued his education during his career earning a Masters' Degree of Arts from The University of Chicago, and his MBA from the University of Colorado.
Beyond his military service, Jerry was a caring family member, supportive friend, and consummate professional. Jerry was deeply loved by his wife Susan Mueller Threadgill; his son Christopher Todd Threadgill and wife Amy Threadgill, their children: Cameron, Reagan, and Gavin Threadgill, Lindsey, Jacob, and Ryan Cunningham; and his daughter Tory Threadgill Bracebridge and husband Jim Bracebridge and their children: Logan, Sam, and Ben Bracebridge. He will also be dearly missed by his sisters Nancy Lee Threadgill and Barbara Ellen Ross, and the rest of his extended family, friends, colleagues and veterans.
Jerry grew up with Irish setters and continued to include them in his life as an adult. He showed dogs in conformation and field trials, appreciating the breed for its beauty, personality, and utility. Jerry and Susan established Tinakilly Kennels together. His champions include CH Camelot's Scarlet Ribbons, CH Castlebar's Peach Blossom and CH Tinakilly's Red Jade, JH and CH Tinakilly's Xanadu, JH. He served for many years on the board of the Potomac Irish Setter Club, including multiple years as club President. Jerry also loved football (Go Army Beat Navy!), gardening, reading, baking, and fishing.
A funeral service to honor Lt. Col. Threadgill will be held on June 4, 2025, at 10am at Hall Funeral home in Purcellville Virginia, with a reception to follow. Interment with full military honors will follow at later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
