Glen Harrison Davis, age 71, departed this life peacefully with family at his home on January 10, 2025.
He was born on October 25, 1953, in Waynesville, North Carolina. While young his family moved to Mt. Vernon, New York, where he was raised before moving to New Castle, Delaware, during his adolescent years.
Glen graduated from William Penn High School in New Castle, Delaware, in 1971. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as a magazine (weapons) specialist. His military career spanned 25 years, culminating in his retirement in 2001. During his time in the Navy, Glen served with distinction on the USS Boxer and built a legacy of dedication and service to his country.
After retiring from the Navy, Glen pursued his entrepreneurial spirit by founding Way Transportation, a trucking company named in honor of his late grandmother, Hilda Way. In 2015, after a brief retirement from the trucking industry, Glen began working for the United States Postal Service. He served as the craft director for the American Postal Workers Union (APWU) until retiring for the third and final time on December 31, 2024.
Glen is survived by his sister, Darlene Davis; and his niece (regarded as his sister), Kaylisha Davis of Mount Vernon, New York. He leaves behind his beloved children: Taineesha Garland of Mount Vernon, New York; Ayriel Mace-Carreker of Concord, North Carolina; Rhonda Bracy-Davis of Salisbury, Maryland; Angela Davis of Salisbury, Maryland; Angelica Davis of
Middletown, Delaware; Diana Wilson of
Middletown, Delaware; and Imanu Farrow of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Glen was a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren, including A'aryn Garland of Mount Vernon, New York; Noah Mace-Carreker of Concord, North Carolina; E'Tiffany and Dwayne Jones of Los Angeles, California; Niah Jones of Dover, Delaware; J'Niah and Jeremiah Davis of Salisbury, Maryland; Winter Davis of
Middletown, Delaware; Sir'Harrison Davis Glen of Washington, D.C.; Krisani, Imanu II, Ibri, and Jalisa Farrow of Bridgeport, Connecticut; and Taylor Proctor of Atlanta, Georgia. Glen also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family who will deeply miss him.
He was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Smith, and her husband, Maximus Smith; his brothers, Timothy and Ronald Davis; three younger brothers, James, Steven, and Tyrone McGee; his son, Rubin Davis; his granddaughter, Lyric Davis.
Glen's life was marked by his unwavering commitment, his tireless work ethic, and his love of service. He will be remembered as a devoted man, and proud Navy veteran who touched the lives of many.
Glen also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family who will deeply miss him.
A viewing will be held on Friday, January 24th at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St.,
Middletown, DE 19709 from 5-7pm. He will be laid to rest at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
