Gloria Naomi Birchmore, 87, of Pensacola, Florida passed away peacefully, August 24, 2022. At the time of her death, Gloria was a resident of Azalea Trace in Pensacola, Florida.
She was the daughter of McDavid and Gladys Naomi Giddens, the first of their three children. She was born November 2, 1934, in the old Sacred Heart Hospital on 12th Avenue in Pensacola, Florida. The family resided in Pensacola until they moved to Pace in 1939 where her family s roots went back several generations. She grew up in the Pace and Milton areas surrounded by her immediate family, many friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins. In Pace, the family revolved around her grandparents, Isom Lee, Eleanor Maebelle Gallops, and Ruby Giddens. She and her family were members of the Pace Assembly of God Church. She attended Pace Elementary School and graduated from Milton High School in 1952. She was a Milton High School Cheerleader and always strived to uphold their strong tradition of excellence. She was proud to play her saxophone in the school s marching band. Go Panthers!
She married Dalen Harold (Bill) Johnson June 13, 1952. They had four children, Michael, Cinthia, Sabrina, and Samantha. Bill died from a tragic auto accident April 19, 1965. She married Henry Harold (Hank) Birchmore, Jr. December 16, 1966. They had one child, Henry Harold Birchmore III. Hank died June 10, 2016, while living at Azalea Trace. Both of Gloria s husbands were US Navy enlistees and spent their entire careers as Naval Sub-Mariners. She was a dedicated Navy wife raising their five children while traveling extensively to various overseas countries and US states. Gloria loved to play bingo and was an avid bowler, holding various officer positions in the Pensacola and Florida Women s Bowling Associations. She and Hank operated McGlads Florist for many years.
Preceding her in death were her parents; daughters, Cynthia and Sabrina; sister, Patricia; both husbands, and sister-in -law Peggy Giddens.
Survivors include her daughter, Samantha Dione Urick of Pace, Florida; sons, Michael Dalen Johnson (Regina) of Au Train Michigan and Henry Harold Birchmore III of Pace, Florida; brother, David (Roy) Giddens of Pensacola Florida; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister we will deeply miss. She will always be in our memories and our hearts. Our world will never be the same without her.
A celebration of life will be held at a date to be determined with cremains interment to follow at the Giddens burial plot in the Historic Milton Cemetery.
The family thanks Emerald Coast Hospice for the compassionate care of Gloria during her end days. Also, thanks to Azalea Trace s Willowbrooke Court staff for their care over seven years, especially Gloria s favorite nurses April and Cindy.
