Carol Schlegel, 90, of Fresno, died on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg following a period of declining health.
She was born on June 21, 1935 in Coshocton to the late Clarence and Vesta Naomi (Senter) McFarland and married Kenneth Schlegel, Sr. on June 5, 1952. He died on October 1, 2019.
Carol worked at the former Baltic IGA for 20 years and was a member of the former Lutheran Church in New Bedford. She will be remembered by many for her spunky spirit and love of family.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and embrodiering.
She is survived by her children Kenny (Bronwyn) Schlegel, Jr. of Beach City, Tony (Carla) Schlegel of Fresno and Diane Schlegel of Coshocton; seven grandchildren Shawn Schlegel, Tiffany Perugini, Sebrina Porter, Seth Schlegel, Heath Lower, Brittany Shamblen, and Cole Snyder; and 10 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by parents, husband and brother Keith Sankey.
Services will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek. Burial will follow in the Fiat Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 10:30-11:30 at the funeral home prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to Whisker Warriors Cat Rescue C/O Sugarcreek Veterinary Clinic.
