Herbert C. Frey, 93, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. Herbert was born January 4, 1930, in Toledo, Ohio to Henry and Rose (Cebul) Frey. He was a graduate of Genoa High School and served in the Ohio Army National Guard. On September 30, 1950, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Felhaber. Herbert was a maintenance mechanic with Brush Wellman in Elmore, Ohio retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Toledo Swiss Group and the American Legion. A lifelong sports fan, Herbert loved cheering on the Michigan Wolverines and Kansas City Chiefs. Herbert built four homes single handedly and was the" family handyman". He received a citizen's award from Marcy Kaptur.
Herbert is survived by his children, Deborah (Alan) Mascsak, Karen Frey; grandchildren, William "Bill" (Laura) St. John, Heidi (Joe) Liburdi, Holly (Jack) Zaborowski; 5 great-grandchildren 4 great-great grandchildren and 1 on the way; brother, Robert (Bonnie) Frey; along with many nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis; and siblings, Marge, Jeanne, and Kenneth.
The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road Monday, October 30, 2023 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm with a rosary service at 1:30 pm. Funeral services Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Interment Lake Township Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Cherry Street Mission or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
