James Alter Obituary

Mr. Alter was born June 15, 1960 in Cumberland County, PA. He is the son of the late James T. Alter, III and the late Teresa (Gonzales) Alter.
He bravely served in the U.S. Marine Corps, both active and reserve duty, from 1983 to 1989 and was honorably discharged.
After the Marine Corps, James attended Kutztown University and earned a B.S. in Accounting.
James worked as a Revenue Tax Audit Supervisor for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, where he retired after 35 years of service. In his time outside of work, he enjoyed NASCAR and Sprint Car racing. He was also an avid Philadelphia sports fan.
He is survived by his brother, Randall Howard Alter of Boyertown, PA; two sisters, Rebecca M. (and her husband William D.) Semple of Boyertown, PA and Josephine K. (and her husband Daniel A.) Eagle of Exeter Twp., PA. He is also survived by five nieces, one nephew, three great nephews and one great niece.
Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by his sister, Pamela Gamber.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Saturday morning from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the Funeral Home.
A Life Celebration Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Houck & Gofus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 955 N. Charlotte Street, Pottstown, PA 19464.
A burial will be in St. Paul's UCC Cemetery, Amityville.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Guide Dog Foundation.
