Funeral services for James "Jimmy" Robert Doolittle, 82, of Leland, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home, Leland. There will be a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time. He passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Jimmy was born in Greenville and moved to Leland at an early age. He graduated from Leland High School and then graduated from Mississippi State University. After graduation from MSU, he returned home to Leland where he was engaged in farming. Jimmy later became Supervisor for the Washington County Drainage, retiring in 2019. He was also a cattle farmer.
He was an active member and past President of the Leland Lions Club. Jimmy also served at the state level with the Lions Eye Bank. He was past President of the Farm Bureau Federation, and a member of First Baptist Church in Leland, where he was a Deacon and choir member. He was also an active member of the Eastside Country Club
He was preceded in death by a son, Bob Doolittle, and parents, Robert and Orris Hemphill Doolittle
He is survived by his wife, Linda Godwin Doolittle of Leland; two sons, Bryan Britton (Michelle) and Chad Britton (Heather); brother, Dr. Phil Doolittle (Cassie) of Greenville; 11 grandchildren and two nephews, Dex Doolittle and Dr. Jeffery Doolittle.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Baptist Children's Village or Gladney Adoption Center.
