Mr. James "Jim" M. Everroad, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed from this life August 10, 2025, in Columbus, Indiana. Born on November 6, 1943, in Columbus, Jim was the son of William S. and Victoria V. Taulman Everroad. Jim's life was one marked by accomplishment, joy, and an unwavering commitment to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through his daughter, Lisa (Dave) Gundaker of Indianapolis, his son, Blake (Lavonne) Everroad of Columbus, and his adored grandchildren, Victoria (Lou Milrod) Gundaker, Carly Gundaker, and Jackie Gundaker. The light of his life shone even brighter with the arrival of his great-grandchild, Ezra Milrod. Jim is also survived by his sister, Jane Louden, and several nieces and nephews, all of whom will deeply miss his presence. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Bill Everroad, Pat Everroad, and Joy Mead. A proud alumnus of Columbus High School and Indiana University, Jim not only excelled academically but also left an indelible mark on the fitness world. Known affectionately as "Coach" Jim, he began his journey into health and wellness at the tender age of six, mentored by his brother Bill. His passion for exercise manifested in a lifetime of achievement, including authoring the book "How to Flatten Your Stomach," which became an international sensation, selling over 2 million copies and gracing every best-seller list. His fame reached new heights when he was interviewed by Tom Brokaw on the Today Show, and his innovative jump rope program, the Lope Rope, captured the attention of major publications like Family Circle magazine and Reader's Digest. Jim's zest for life was contagious. He was an inventor, author, and entrepreneur who infused everything he did with intelligence, humor, and a touch of genius. His induction into the National Fitness Hall of Fame was a testament to his contributions to the world of health and exercise. Jim also had a knack for invention, creating exercise equipment that helped countless individuals improve their lives. In his 70's, Jim competed all over the world in the World Master's diving championships often earning the gold medal. Always one to seek the thrill of adventure, Jim relished the exhilarating experience of skydiving and scuba diving, hobbies that exemplified his philosophy of living life to the fullest. His sense of humor and ability to make exercise a joy rather than a chore will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Shelter House at Donner Park from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A private inurnment will take place at Garland Brook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation for Youth. Condolences and special memories may be shared with Jim's family at barkesweaverglick.com.
