On October 14, 2025, James B Howell III peacefully passed away while living at the Maurice House nursing home located in Millville, NJ. James was born on December 11, 1933, and lived more than 60 years at the Howell family farm located at the end of Sayres Neck road in Cedarville NJ. James married his now deceased wife, Lorraine C Howell, where they enjoyed a loving marriage of over 20 plus years. Mr. Howell was proceeded in death by his father, James B Howell Jr, and mother, Catherine S. Howell, who also lived at the same Howell family farm. James had three brothers, two who proceeded him in death David and Edmund. He has one living brother, Joseph M Howell, Sr. In addition, James is survived by 8 nieces and nephews.
James graduated locally from Bridgeton High School and also graduated at Rutgers University where he studied Agriculture and later attended the University of Delaware where he completed a Master of Business Administration. James worked for approx. 33 years and eventually retired from Asgrow Seed company. Jim also served in the U.S. Army reserves for over 25 years and eventually reached the rank of Colonel. During his time in the U.S. Army, Jim had various duties but one he was most proud of was his active recruiting of perspective students for West Point Academy. Jim regularly attended and actively served in the Cedarville Presbyterian Church as an elder for well over 50 years. As stated previously, Jim lived at but also owned and managed the Howell Family Farm, which happens to be one of the oldest farms in the United States and is the oldest farms owned and ran by the same families within the state of N.J.
Funeral Services will be held at 11AM on Saturday, October 25th at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10AM to 11AM prior to the services. Interment with military honors will take place at Cedar Hill Cemtery in Cedarville following the funeral service.
