Tustin - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Arvid Johnson, a resident of Tustin, on March 7, 2025, at the age of 71 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather; a kind hearted man, a lover of Jesus, who touched the lives of many.
Jim was born April 18, 1953 in Reed City, Michigan to Arvid and Laura "June" (McQuestion) Johnson, the fifth of six children. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Anne (Sprague) Johnson; their sons, Timothy of LeRoy and Michael (Amy) Johnson of Hart; and his dear grandchildren, Riley, Hazel, Addilynn, and August.
He is also survived by siblings, Mike (Sally) Johnson of LeRoy; Barb (Larry) Bartrand of Grandville; and Bill (Mary) Johnson of LeRoy; as well as numerous other loving family and in-laws, friends and church family.
Jim graduated from Pine River High School where he played basketball and baseball before attending Central Michigan University and Tennessee Temple University where he earned a bachelor's degree and Temple Baptist Theological Seminary earning a Master of Divinity. Jim pastored Calvary Baptist in Sioux Lookout, Ontario for nearly ten years before returning to Michigan to work for his brothers Bill and Dan at the family business, A.L. Johnson and Sons in LeRoy. After they left the business, he continued to work for Ryan Johnson, the new owner and his nephew, for a total of more than 36 years at ALJ. He was a dedicated servant of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, speaking from many different pulpits throughout the years and providing teaching and guidance at Temple Hill Baptist Church.
Jim loved watching his sons play sports. He was an avid outdoorsman spending as many days as he could hunting and fishing. Jim could also be found on the golf course, including a league with nephews. Jim's life was centered around faith and family and he will be sorely missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arvid Ladd and Laura "June"; brother, Dan Johnson; and sister, Ruth Ann Johnson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Temple Hill Baptist Church, 1601 W. Division Street, Cadillac, Michigan, Saturday, March 15, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. His wish to be cremated was honored.
The family would like to thank everyone for prayers and kindness shown during his short illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to, Pregnancy Resource Center of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Life Resources of Northern Michigan in Cadillac, Michigan, or the Benevolent fund at Temple Hill Baptist Church in Cadillac, Michigan.
