James J. Keane Jr., 91, of Edison, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Hackensack Meridian Health – JFK Medical Center, Edison.
Jim was born in the Bronx, New York, where he attended St. John Chrysostom School and Cardinal Hayes High School for Boys. He later went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and his master's degree from New York University. After his time in the Bronx, he moved to Jersey City, then to Sewaren, and finally settled in Edison in 1970.
He owned and retired from his brokerage firm, Keane Securities Co. Inc., after a long and successful career. Jim was an avid sports fan-whether coaching Pop Warner football in Jersey City, cheering on the New York Yankees or Notre Dame Fighting Irish, or playing a round of golf. He joined the Metuchen Golf & Country Club in 1965 and was its longest active member. He
also enjoyed volunteering at the Menlo Park Veterans Home and playing cards and Scrabble, especially with his grandchildren, Amanda and Ethan.
He is predeceased by his parents, James Keane and Mary (McCann) Keane; his brother, Tommy Keane (2020); and his stepdaughter, Kristine Cassidy (2021). Jim is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marie (Costello) Keane of Edison; his children, Brian Keane and his wife Katherine Yutzey of Cincinnati, OH, Donna Fry of Edison, Michael Keane and his wife Michelle Sarver of Edison, and Kelly Friel and her husband Greg of Hoboken; his six grandchildren; his step-son, Michael Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. Jim is also survived by his sister-in-law Bernie Ludwig and her husband Richard, who were a meaningful source of support and love to the family throughout the years.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 2–6pm at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home.
The funeral will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 9:45am from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:15am at St. Francis Cathedral. Cremation will be private. For those who cannot attend the Funeral Mass, a livestream will be available at www.stfranciscathedral.org.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers at www.t2t.org in Jim's memory.
