James "Jim" Michael Venegoni, age 86, a resident of Bloomington, Indiana passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 29, 2025.
Born January 6, 1939, to Caesar and Edna Venegoni in St. Louis, Missouri, Jim grew up in Kirkwood, Missouri. He graduated from Eugene Coyle High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve in Fort Leonardwood, Missouri and Fort Hood, Texas.
Jim worked for the Brown Shoe Company, Buster Brown Division, for eleven years during which his traveling territories brought him to live in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Iowa. He worked for the U.S. Shoe Company, Women's Joyce Division from 1972-1976; the United American Insurance from 1977-1991; as an independent insurance agent from 1991-2000; and for Michael Dean & Associates from 2000-2005.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Diana Venegoni; sons Michael (Linda) Venegoni of Kansas, David Venegoni of Oklahoma, Jason (Jennifer) Birk of Indiana, and Alex (Heather) Birk of Indiana; daughter Kris (Joe) Johnson of Georgia; grandchildren Jacob (Whitney), Matthew (Angelica), Caleb, Angela, Margaret, Michael (Kara), Henry, Rex, James, and Ava; great-grandchildren Masyn, Maddox, Rayner, Rayden, Chandler, Clara, Reagan; brothers John Venegoni and Jerry Venegoni. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joe.
Jim "Vene" was an avid golfer, regularly playing at Cascades Golf Course in Bloomington and the former IU Golf Course. He was passionate about IU football and enjoyed many years celebrating at IU tailgates. He loved watching IU basketball and spending time with his beloved dog, Max.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 11, 2025 at 10 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church 2222 East Third Street, Bloomington, IN 47401, with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11AM. Burial to follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Monroe County Humane Society @monroehumane.org.
