Jo Marie Travis (Berry), 75, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2024, in Tyler, Texas. Born on March 7, 1949, in Grand Saline, Texas, she was a cherished member of the community and a devoted educator.
Jo dedicated her career to nurturing young minds as a schoolteacher at Wills Point ISD, where she retired in 2010 after decades of service. She was a proud alumna of Canton High School, graduating in the class of 1967 and later earning a master's degree from East Texas State University in 1972.
A loving, funny, and adventurous soul, Jo found joy in traveling and painting, pursuits that reflected her vibrant and creative spirit. She was a faithful member of the Edgewood Church of Christ, where she participated actively in community and spiritual activities.
Jo is survived by her husband, Alan Travis; son, Kyle Travis; daughters, Melissa Tompkins (John) and Alana Kundu (Amlan); grandchildren, Taylor, Maylee, and Aarav; cousins Ruth, Carolyn, Kevin, and Diane; her "sister" Dianne Vermillion; and many close friends who were like family. She was preceded in death by her father, Sam Houston Berry, mother, Lottie Marie Berry, and birth mother, Trudie Mae Spears.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Edgewood Church of Christ, located at 15915 Highway 80, Edgewood, TX 75117.
At the family's request, donations in honor of Jo can be made in lieu of flowers to Edgewood Church of Christ or the Wills Point Education Foundation.
Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home of Wills Point, Texas, is assisting the family with arrangements. Jo's warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
