Joan "Joanie" Chojnowski was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world peacefully on January 24, 2024, at the age of 72.

Joan was born to the late Edward W Chojnowski and Stella Chojnowski on June 7, 1951, in Westfield, Massachusetts. She graduated from The Holyoke School of Nursing in 1972. Her career as an OR nurse spanned three states: Maine, New Hampshire, and Florida. She resided most of her life in Maine and moved to Texas with her eldest son Richie after being diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia(FTD).

She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Stella; her two sons Eddie and Ben. She is survived by her eldest son Richard Schenk, of Lakehills, Texas; seven grandchildren: Gaven Tennant, PJ Schenk, Mason Schenk, Samantha Orman, Madyson Trapani, Madison Schenk, and Gage Schenk; her siblings: Sue Alamed, of Westfield; Pauline Wilson, of St. Petersburg; and Tommy Chojnowski, of Westfield.

Joan loved nature and exploring the outdoors, especially with her grandchildren. Her hobbies included quilting, collecting wicker baskets, indulging in chocolate, dancing to music, and making people laugh. A rare gem of kindheartedness, selflessness, and a beauty that graced this world and all that came in contact with her.

A Celebration of Life will be held for her family and friends in the early summer of 2024 (details TBD).

So Sad. I remember Joan from junior and senior high school. I used to walk home with her from junior high. I recall her as a sweet and wonderful girl who as best I recall always wanted to be a nurse. I am sorry to see she has left us and I offer my most sincere sympathies to her family and pray that the Good Lord will look after her and help those left behind to heal. Al Mastello Fort Worth TX

My favorite memories with Joan is when Joan and I drove all over Maine with her 4 grandchildren. Lobster festival in Rockland, ME and meeting with Miss Maine USA at Winter harbor are just few of the awesome things we did with the kids. Thank you, Joan, for showing me the beautiful Maine!
