Joan Sweety Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 6, 2025.
It is with a completely sad & heavy heart of the passing of my mom, Joan Sweety. The best mother anyone could wish for! Her son in law, Sean Perry & Grandsons, Ryan & Austin McCalla and I are so thankful to have such great memories that we all had with her. Sean, Ryan & I were blessed to move close to her over the last year & a half. She died suddenly of heart failure at her precious St.BenedictCatholicChurch.She will be cremated next to my dad, Jim Sweety at Brown Funeral Home & Crematory in Crystal River/Lecanto.

When I heard about Joan's passing, I said a prayer for her and for your family during this incredibly difficult time. Joan was such an inspiring and joyful person, and it´s clear she created a lasting legacy of fun, adventure, and community. She was a vibrant soul who brought joy to so many, and her impact will never be forgotten.

The adventures Joan and Sharon created meant so much to so many, and Joan´s legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of experiencing her warmth and spirit of joy.

Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that, in time, you can find comfort in the beautiful memories and moments shared with her.

With deepest sympathy,
Tania Rowley

I met her once as part of a tour years ago and we became Facebook friends. We shared a lot of inspirational posts. I admired her faithful heart.

Joan w a very good tour guide. Made travel very easy and fun. Although we did not go to the same Mass, we used to run into each other every now and then at St Benedict Church, either at events or coming and going into church. She was always pleasant and cordial. My husband Paul and I were very shocked and sad to hear of her passing. Our prayers and condolences to her family.

So sorry for your loss. I only knew her through Ryan and know that she will be missed. I know that she and Ryan loved my spaghetti because she loved garlic as much as I did. My prayers go out to you and your family.

Joan was a friend to everyone she knew (she had ALOT of friends) and one of the most genuine people you would ever meet. She truly loved living life to its fullest but it was her faith that always impressed me the most. She will be missed!

What a sweet sweet lady and she was a patient and friend. I am very sad and surprised by her death. I haven't seen her for years but we talked online. I will miss seeing her online.

Joan was such a nice person. Joan and Sharon organized all the Day Tripper trips and boy did we have fun. They picked the best places to go to, best seats and told the funniest jokes on the bus. We really miss Joan. Our prayers and condolences go out to her family. What wonderful memories the family must have. I know we do.

So sorry to hear about Ms. Joan´s passing. We are her neighbors right next door. That morning when I saw her leave for church she had the biggest smile and she rolled down her window and said "Good morning" as I waved and told her good morning back. She looked so happy and beautiful. Ya´ll are in our prayers. She will be missed.

A favorite picture of mine is this one, where she met sweet Luna. Joan absolutely loved animals and animals loved her just as much. My dog Tucker knew that every time he saw Joan there was a treat waiting for him in her pocket. We will miss you so much Joan, it was a privilege to be part of your life

Joan and Sweets were among my dearest friends going back to the days that Sweets and I shared at TRW and the days when the three of us were involved in the South Bay Archery Club. He and Joan won the club´s husband and wife trophy a couple of years in a row and they were an inspiration to me in so many ways. Joan was such a loving wife and a loving friend to the band of ruffians that hung-out with them. Among treasured memories, and there are far to many to attempt to recount, is that every year in December we would take Jimmie, Janet and my daughter Amy to the Christmas tree lot at 190th and Hawthorn to harvest our trees. The crazies from TRW, Smith, Wessel, Graham and maybe even me, were a lot to handle but Joan was always there to look out for Sweets (and all of us, for that matter!) She put-up with more shenanigans from all of us than should be asked of any person but always did so with a laugh. She was truly one of the classiest ladies I´ve ever known and her passing leaves a huge hole in my heart. I can´t believe she´s gone.

Joan was a dear friend from the pool. She had Christmas dinner with us a few years ago. So classy and elegant. She always made a fuss with my husband, Bob. He'd yell "Hi SWEETIE" She'd yell back HI BOB !!!! We just loved her.
