He is also survived by his sisters, Diane Dye Ragus and husband Jerry, Sue Dye Rainbolt-Tatum and Toni Dye Barkley and husband Mike; his maternal aunt Mildred Russell Barnhill, numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends Mike Costello, Paul Fragala, George Lewis, and A.P. Owens.
He is preceded in death by his parents Gaston and Annie Dye, his brothers, John Thomas Dye, Gaston Eugene Dye, Harry Lee Dye, Bobby Dye, Jerry Doyle Dye, Kenneth Ray Dye, and infant sister Peggy Joyce Dye.
Joe was born in Oak Grove, Louisiana and grew up in both Oak Grove and Mer Rouge, Louisiana. He was a graduate of Mer Rouge High School, where he played baseball. He loved baseball and was a faithful St. Louis Cardinal fan. He also enjoyed watching Joe Burrow play for LSU, then the Cincinnati Bengals, whether it was a current game or not. Joe worked at MG Dickey and Bacon Equipment in Mer Rouge before retiring in 1988 to do what he loved, farming. He farmed cotton, soybeans, rice, tomatoes, and bailed hay. If it had to do with a John Deere tractor and a piece of land he farmed it. His pride and joy were his peach and plum trees. He kept a list of everyone that wanted peaches and plums and checked them off his list once he made delivery to them. He loved watching his kids and grand kids play football, baseball, basketball, and softball. He would also attend football games just to watch his granddaughters cheer.
The family extends a special thank you to all the nurses and CNA's at Cherry Ridge Guest Care, they treated our husband and dad with love, care, and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe, Louisiana or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
A time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at the chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop followed by memorial services at 2:00 PM., at the funeral home.
