John Dwight Blackburn (68) peacefully passed away in his home on October 16, 2024. He was born on November 1,1955 in Williamson, West Virginia.
He is preceded in death by his parents John W. Blackburn and Betty L Blackburn, brothers Greg, Byron & Bryan Blackburn.
He is survived by one brother, Gary (Mooch) Blackburn, his wife of 43 years, Kimberly Blackburn, son Joshua (Amanda) Blackburn, daughter Erica (Mike) Janney, seven Grandchildren: Emily, Austin, Jonathan, Connor, Maria, Alex and Silas along with numerous cousins and nephews.
He graduated from Belmont High School in 1974 and retired in May of 2020 after 32 years of working at Montgomery County where he developed many friendships with people that he cared dearly about for years to come. Prior to Montgomery County, he held other jobs earlier in his life which he enjoyed. He worked as a bar bouncer in the 1970's, also worked with his father for a few years at Brainerd Industries.
He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings Football Team since 1969, Ohio State Buckeyes College Football and UD Flyers Basketball. If he could help it, he never missed a game. He coached the Kettering Wildcats Football Team for a few years, which he absolutely loved doing in at that time.
After retirement, he enjoyed spending his time watching sports, listening to music and hanging out with friends and family. He took great pride in his family. The one thing he enjoyed the most was spending that time with his kids and grandkids celebrating birthdays, holidays and the individual accomplishments in their lives. John will be deeply missed not only by his family but by all the people whose lives he touched over the years.
A Memorial Service will be held at Schlientz & Moore Funeral Home, 1632 Wayne Avenue on Friday, October 25, 2024 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm.

John was one of my favorite patients that i had the pleasure of working with during his rehab stays. John was kind, hard working during his therapy, and funny. the love he had for his family was quite evident in the stories and memories that he shared. Praying for Gods perfect peace and comfort during this difficult time.
