John Taylor Madden
December 30, 1990 – April 9, 2025
It is with deep love and heartbreak that we share the passing of our cherished son and brother, John Taylor Madden.
John Taylor was born in San Antonio, Texas, the first child and only son of Sarah and Troy Madden. As a little boy, he treasured his "Bear, Bear," and couldn't get enough of Barney the Dinosaur and the Power Rangers.
Known affectionately as "JT," he had a disarming wit, a soft heart, and a gift for making others feel seen and cared for. His kindness was quiet but unwavering, and his humor could light up a room-sometimes dry, sometimes goofy, but always authentically JT.
He spent his childhood in Boerne and Georgetown, Texas, making lifelong friends in school and the community. He graduated from Richarte High School and earned a degree in History from Texas State University-a fitting choice for someone who could recall random historical trivia and debate anything from ancient empires to whether Die Hard counts as a Christmas movie.
JT worked for H-E-B for 17 years, working his way through different levels of management. He made many close friends through the company and was respected for his work ethic, loyalty, and ability to find laughter even on the tough days.
A proud animal lover-dogs and cats topping the list-and had a soft spot for the underdog, which might explain his undying loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys. JT was too young for the glory years of the '90s, but had a front-row seat for every painful twist and turn of the "Jerry years." He took it all in stride, mostly with eye rolls and sighs. Thankfully, he had the Tim Duncan era of the San Antonio Spurs to carry him through. Although young when he left San Antonio, he never gave up on his Spurs. He stuck by them in championship parades and rebuilding years, always keeping the faith.
JT's heart was rooted in compassion. He was a monthly supporter of Planned Parenthood and sincerely believed in equality for all people. His quiet advocacy reflected who he was: thoughtful, consistent, and always willing to lend a hand-or an ear-without seeking credit.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Shirley Moore and Beverly Merryman, and his grandfathers, Duke Ruhl and Bob Madden.
He is survived by his parents, Sarah and Troy Madden; his sister and brother-in-law, Halle and Cam Waites of Georgetown, Texas; and his grandparents, Rod and Jan Boswell and Norman Merryman of Austin, Texas.
JT also leaves behind a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him deeply and miss him terribly. The list is long because his circle was wide, and his impact is lasting.
