John David "Dave" Meharg

John David "Dave" Meharg, 73, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away on December 14, 2024, at UF Health Flagler Hospital. Born in Vancouver, Canada, to the late Norman and Margaret Meharg, Dave's life journey took him across the world and back, making an indelible impact on everyone he met.
At the age of 8, Dave moved with his family to Australia, where he lived until he was 14, before relocating to Florida. He graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1969, and later earned a degree in psychology and a master's in education from the University of North Florida.
Dave's career began in 1976 at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind, where he met his future wife, Margot. The couple married and moved to Cincinnati in 1980, where Dave worked at Clovernook School for the Blind. In 1981, they returned to Florida, where Dave sold hearing aids for Beltone Hearing Aids before returning to Florida School for the Deaf and Blind, where he worked until his retirement in 2023.
A man of many talents, Dave held an 8th-degree black belt in Tang Soo Do and a gray belt in Pakua. He was also a devoted soccer coach and referee for many years, sharing his passion for the sport with his community. A lifelong supporter of St. Augustine High School football, Dave was known for his unwavering enthusiasm, often traveling great distances to attend the team's games.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Margot Meharg; children; Melissa Callahan, Kathryn "Katie" Meharg and Tiffany Meharg; grandchildren; Kinley, Lacie, Traise and Elizabeth "Peanut" and his sisters, Joan Billington and Deborah Mitrovka (John) and many cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his son Ryan Meharg and his siblings Carol Byrd and Brian Meharg.
