John S. Phillips, 74, a lifelong member of the Lafayette community, passed away at Rosewalk Village of Lafayette. He was born on November 18, 1949 to Francis & Mary C. Phillips. John was known for his diverse career, having worked at National Homes, Rostone, Carpet Warehouse, Camera Craftsman, Berry's Camera Shop, and Camera Outfitters. He also attended classes at Vincennes University and proudly served in the National Guard.
John's passion for life extended beyond his professional endeavors. He enjoyed playing pool and euchre, and his friendly demeanor meant he never met a stranger. Among his proudest accomplishments was being a part of the American Legion Post 11 and a member of the 40 & 8. His commitment to community and service shone brightly through this involvement.
In his personal life, John was surrounded by a loving family and numerous friends. In his first marriage to Sharon Arman (Hart) he was blessed with his daughter Melisa (Bart) Saunders of Attica and son John Phillips Jr. of NC. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Phillips (Oglesby) of Lafayette; daughter Angela (James) Larson of Monticello; sons Thomas (Tonya) Franks of Lafayette, Matthew (Deanna) Franks of Monticello; brothers Thomas (Nancy) Phillips and Gary Phillips of Lafayette; sister Mary Ann (Denny) Morgan of West Lafayette.
John's memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren Andrew, Daniel, Micah, Amanda, Emma, Abigail, Mia, Aaron, Henry, Lucas, Oksana, Skyler, Cheyanne, Keyera, Brent, Dakota, Erica, Lawrence, Nichole, Mckinnize, Caden, Evan, Cody, Dakota, Tyler; and 27 great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ron Phillips; and sister-in-law Karen Phillips.
Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 10 until 12 PM Monday March 4. Funeral Services will follow at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home at 12 PM with Fr. Robert Klemme & Pastor Joseph Park officiating, with interment following at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lafayette.
