John Clayton Watson, Sr., 75, of Hartford, Connecticut, husband of the late Veronica Watson, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at UCONN John Dempsey Hospital, Farmington. Born February 11, 1949, son of the late John J. Williams and Annie (Marshall) Watson, he lived in the Hartford area most of his life and several years in Charlottesville, Virginia.
He worked 28 years for the City of Hartford and retired in 2003 after serving in several leadership positions within Housing Code Enforcement. He is survived by three children, John C. Watson, Jr. (Toni) of Stafford, Virginia; Jacqueline C. Daniel of Dallas, Texas; Janell C. Burrell (Burnell III) of Meriden, Connecticut; his beloved sister, Patricia Kelly (James); a brother, Joseph Henderson (Carole); nine grandchildren- John III "JC," Jacquis, Daryl (Gwen), Chanielle, Kayla, Trevaine, Andre, Tristan, and Loren; three great-grandchildren- Rylan, Meziah and Remy; nieces Tonya and Heather, and a nephew Fred "Sonny."
He served as President for three terms (1992-1996 and 1998-2006) for the Connecticut Association of Housing Code Enforcement Officials (CAHCEO). He was instrumental in the Association's drive to become a chapter of the Building Officials and Code Administrators International, Inc. On June 13, 2008, The CAHCEO, Distinguished Service Award was renamed the John C. Watson, Sr. Distinguished Service Award in his honor.
In honor of his relationship with his God, Jehovah, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue in Windsor, Connecticut. To leave online condolences, please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com.
