Jon Wayne Dawson, Age 77 Jon passed away on October, 17, 2024 in his home in Sun City, AZ He was born in Dodge City, KS, June 24, 1947 to Melvin W Dawson and Phyllis A Dawson (Bisbee)
The Dawson family relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1956 where Jon became involved in many activities in the Widefield community. He joined the Boy Scouts and earned his Eagle Scout Badge. Jon was on the varsity football team at Widefield High School his senior year and was also on the track and field team as a pole vaulter. Jon became interested in golf at a young age, he was a caddy at the Broadmoor Hotel golf course in Colorado Springs during his junior high and high school years. He graduated from Widefield High School in 1965.
After high school Jon enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the Coral Sea Aircraft Carrier as a radioman during the Vietnam War.
Once his Navy Service was completed Jon followed his dream and moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he became a Golf Pro. working in a golf resort in Phoenix through the 70's.
Jon moved back to Colorado Springs, Colorado in the late 70's where he met and married his wife Gretchen Nelson. They lived in Colorado Springs 20 plus years where they had an antique business together. Jon was also a licensed blackjack dealer in Cripple Creek, Colorado for many years. Jon and Gretchen were avid dog lovers and always had them as a part of their family.
After his wife Gretchen passed away Jon retired to Sun City, Arizona. He enjoyed these past years working part time in a golf club, and playing golf with the Desert Rats Golf Group in Sun City. Jon was also happy to have his golf buddy Clark Dawson close by and the rest of his family within close driving distance.
Jon is survived by his Sister Drinda Nigbur (Dawson), Brother Clark Dawson, Sister Melanie Rogge (Dawson), Nephew Matt Nigbur, Nephew Justin Rogge, Niece Christan Rogge and Niece Emily Marshall Predeceased by his Father Melvin Dawson, Mother Phyllis Dawson, and Wife Gretchen Nelson
A Military Service for Jon will be held at: National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona 2929 E Pinnacle Peak Rd Phoenix, AZ, 85024 Date: Wednesday, November, 20th, 2024, Time: 1:00 pm
With heavy hearts we say a loving goodbye to our big brother Jon who we have looked up to throughout our lives. We will miss him greatly.
