Jose Charles Joven born on December 1st, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois to Dorothy Juanita Gates and Jose Ramos Joven. Soon after his family relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana. Jose received his education thru the Indianapolis public schools and graduated in 1967 from Arsenal Technical High School.

He joined in matrimony with Janice Jones on August 31, 1968. To their union they were blessed with three children Jose, Shannda, and Carrie. Just as tree branches expand and split throughout the forest; Jose's branches reached other destinations. Eventually joining to form an even larger family. Those branches will always be intertwined with his prior. He is survived by his wife Fe. Who he joined in matrimony March 15, 2002. Along with his stepchildren Melissa (Corey) and Michael (Nissa) Stepmother Flora Joven. His sisters Rebecca (Bill), Maria and brothers James (Carol), John (Linda), and Mario (Tess). Jose was blessed with nine grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter and a host of neices and nephews.

William Wallace said,"Every man dies. Not every man really lives."

Jose was larger (and louder) than life. He loved music. As a blues man. He was a self taught bassist. Throughout his life he played with several bands. An outdoorsman. He loved tending to his garden, camping, fishing and paddling down rivers in his canoe. An avid traveler. From climbing mountains in Wyoming. To navigating cross country to deliver an RV to Alaska; then driving down the West Coast before returning home. He has walked the Lost City of the Incas in Peru. Hiked treacherous cliffs in the Philippines to see the hanging coffins of Sagada. On this trip he also was blessed with a whirlwind visit to his Father's homeland Iloccos Sur. Where he was able to walk the same streets his Father did prior to his journey to the US in the 1930s. He maneuverd the tunnels along the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Vietnam. He climbed to the top of Ankor Wat Temple in Cambodia. Constantly researching and mapping out his next trip. Knowing him.... it was probably before his jet lag wore off.

Robert Louis Stevenson said, "The man is a success who has lived well, loved much, and laughed often." Jose did just that!
