It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Jay, who left us for his heavenly home on 04/12/2025 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He faced his illness with remarkable strength and grace. Jay was a cherished son, brother, husband and father. He was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Jays passing leaves behind a void that can never be filled in the hearts of his family and friends and many more whose lives were touched by him. Jay's journey on this earth was marked by love, compassion and his unwavering faith in God. Those who knew Jay will remember him for his honesty, integrity, quick wit, compassion for others, and kindness to everyone he encountered. Jay had very strong values and was well liked by everyone. Jay had a passion for baseball. He played local baseball in Stanley while playing year round travel baseball for many years until he attended East Gaston High School where he graduated in 2010. He then attended Belmont Abbey where he was recruited to their baseball team. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree at UNC-Charlotte. Jay was employed with Tyler 2 construction as a project manager where he took his precious Great Dane Moose with him to work every day. They had such a special bond, and Moose never left Jay's side (except when there were forbidden treats within reach. He sniffed those out). Jay attended Stanley Pentecostal Holiness Church where he was involved in the Easter Drama as a guard and played on the church softball team. Jay had such a passion for life. His favorite hobby was playing with his precious children and spending time with his family. He loved spending time watching baseball and playing golf with his friends. Jay was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gene and Loretta Allen of Shelby and Joe and Shelby Puckett of Stanley. Jay is survived by his parents, Joey and Sharon Puckett; wife, Catherine Puckett, daughter, Blakely Elizabeth, and son, Noah Joseph; sister Casey Payne and brother in law Josh Payne; nieces, Phoebe Moore, Emma Payne, and Nephew, Crosby Payne; in laws, Mark and Sheila Lloyd, sister and brother in law, Brandon and Caroline Newton, brother in law Christopher Lloyd, and nephews, Bryant and Jaxson Newton. Jay also leaves behind the most amazing aunts, uncles and cousins whom he loved immensely as well as his dogs, Moose and Daisy. The family wishes to thank the Doctors,Nurses and staff at the Atrium main oncology floor for their compassionate care, dedication, and support for Jay and our family. Their gentle hands and kindness will forever be remembered. The devastation this brings our family is impossible to put into words, but we know Jay is now walking with The Lord in his healthy body, and that alone brings us peace. We are so proud of the Godly man Jay was and his bright light will continue to shine upon us until we meet again.
Services for Jay will be held on Friday April 18, 2025 at 1pm at Stanley Pentecostal Holiness Church. Rev. Dr. Danny Penny,Pastor Eric Chaney and Pastor Robyn Puffenbarger will be officiating the service. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 11am-1pm. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Mausoleum 1508 Charles Raper Jonas Hwy. Mt. Holly, NC 28120. Memorials can be made to support Jay's children's education. These donations can be made to Jay's Childrens Education Fund with Truist Bank or via Zelle.Condolence messages may be sent to the family by visiting
