Joseph A. “Joe” Toenyes, 66, of Alhambra, IL, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, IL.
He was born on February 2, 1959, at St. Mary’s Hospital in East St. Louis, IL, to Joseph and Shirley (nee LaFreniere) Toenyes.
Joe was a loving brother, friend, father, grandfather, and son who was known for meeting every day with a smile. He found some of his greatest joys and closest friends traveling to pig shows all across the country with his son, Miles. For the past two years, Joe has found true delight in watching his granddaughter, Aubrey, grow.
Beyond being an incredibly proud father and caring friend, Joe was known professionally for his artistic talents working with concrete and landscaping. He built his reputation on integrity, an abundantly strong work ethic, and a willingness to take on challenges. His legacy will endure through not only his beautiful creations, but also the people he mentored along the way. Joe was passionate in every aspect of his life. Above all else, he was a remarkably genuine man who was willing to do anything for his family and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his father and mother, Joseph and Shirley (nee LaFreniere) Toenyes.
He is survived by his son, Miles (Micah) Toenyes; his granddaughter, Aubrey Toenyes; stepdaughter, Heather Kniess; 6 step grandchildren & step great grandchildren; siblings, Sue (Paul) Daiber, Karen Wiesmeyer, Keith (Amy) Toenyes, and Scott (Chrissy) Toenyes; and 19 nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the Madison County Fair Board, Aubrey Toenyes (for her scholarship fund), or Greenville First Christian Church.
