Kathy Nelson Allred

September 18, 1958 - August 30, 2024

Kathy Nelson Allred, age 65, passed away surrounded by loving family members on August 30, 2024, in Asheboro, NC, after fighting a long, courageous battle with cancer since 2007. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, more affectionately known as, “Mimi.” She was born in Asheboro, NC, on September 18, 1958, and is survived by her husband Mark Allred and son Thomas Skeen (Helen) and grandchildren Anna Kathryn, Phillips, and Charlie, all of Asheboro, NC; her son Michael Page Skeen (Kathryn) and grandchildren Elizabeth, Alice and Sloane of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; and stepson Brad Allred of Wilmington, NC.

She is also survived by her mother, Lily Cole of Franklinville, NC, her sister Janet Cagle (Boyd) of Asheboro, NC, her brother Ronnie Nelson of Franklinville, NC, in-laws Ralph Allred and Laura Luck and Mary Lou Allred, all of Asheboro, NC, brother-in-law Alan Allred of Badin Lake, NC, and many close cousins and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Garner Reitzel, of Randleman, NC, and her father, George Nelson, Jr.

A lifelong North Carolina resident, she graduated from Randleman High School in 1976. Following her degree from the University of North Carolina Greensboro, she embarked upon a successful career as a computer programmer for both local and international companies. Known for her quick wit, steadfast work ethic and love for every animal she encountered, Kathy will be remembered for centering her life around her family, and the love she gave to all those she cherished. Her six grandchildren loved her as their Mimi and were her world. 

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at 3 p.m. at Crestview Wesleyan Church, 180 Crestview Church Road, Asheboro, NC. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Randolph Memorial Park, 4538 US Hwy 220 Bus. N., Asheboro, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Keaton’s Place, Randolph Hospice House, both in Asheboro, and The V Foundation for Cancer.
