Kenneth R. Phillips, passed away peacefully at the age of 75 in his hometown of Morris on May 13, 2025. He was born on July 3, 1949, to the late Russel A. and Virginia (Wilkinson) Phillips.
Ken was a proud graduate of Morris High School, class of 1968, and furthered his education at Joliet Junior College. His academic journey was interrupted when he was drafted into the United States Army, where he honorably served in Germany. It was during his time in the army that Ken met his beloved wife, Vicki. The couple married in 1972 and returned to Morris to start their family.
For 40 years, Ken was a dedicated employee at Mazon Elevator. His work ethic and commitment to the job were unwavering, and he became a well-known figure in the industry.
After his retirement, Ken found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He could often be found basking in the sun in his swimming pool or cheering on his favorite teams, whether it was the Chicago Cubs, Bears, Sky, the Illinois Fighting Illini, or the Tennessee Vols. Ken's passion for sports was only surpassed by his love for his grandchildren, whom he supported wholeheartedly. He was a constant presence at their sporting events, always the loudest cheerleader in the stands. Even in his quieter moments, Ken could be found enjoying a Hallmark movie, a simple pleasure that brought him much contentment.
Family was the cornerstone of Ken's life. He is survived by his loving children, Nicki (Chad) McKinney, Russel (April) Phillips, Chandra (Jamie) Winsor, Rob (Kelly) Phillips, and Randy (Tammy) Phillips. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Keegan, Konner, and Kade McKinney; Avery and Gage Phillips; Kylie and Garrett Winsor; Cheyenne, Jaren, Lyla, and Luke Phillips, Aidan Hayse; and Ethan, Evan, Emma, Ivy, and Onyx Phillips. Ken also leaves behind his brother, Rodney "Bucky" (Chrissy) Phillips, and sisters, Ruth Ann (James) Benson, Kathy Gibbons, and Patti (Don) Anderson, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will miss his guidance and humor.
Preceding Ken in death was his wife, Vicki, who was the love of his life; his parents; his siblings, Betty Sterritt, Mary Currie, and Tom Phillips; and his grandson, Ean Phillips.
A visitation for Ken will be held on Tuesday May 20, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the UC Davis-Callahan Funeral Home in Morris. A celebration of Ken's life will follow at 6:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Steve Larson. Aqua Cremation rites have been accorded.
