Kenneth D. Denton, 85, of Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, October 10, 2025.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Ken was the son of the late Fannie N. (née Brys) and Myron H. Denton. He was raised in Irvington and was a proud graduate of Irvington High School. Shortly after graduation, he began a long and successful career in the technology field, working as a data processing manager for several companies, including Keneth Too and Matchbox. In his later years, in an effort to keep busy, Ken began working as a funeral attendant for Paul Ippolito Memorials in Summit and Berkeley Heights, where he became a beloved and cherished member of the staff for many years.
Ken also served as a reservist in the New Jersey Army National Guard.
In 1969, Ken and his family moved to Berkeley Heights, where he remained a cherished part of the community for more than five decades. He was an active and devoted father, coaching his children's baseball, softball and soccer teams-roles he took great pride in.
In his younger years, Ken was an avid golfer, bowler, and an avid baseball fan. He also loved fishing and crabbing at the Jersey shore. Ken was born into a die-hard New York Yankees loving family and followed the team until his last moments. Later in life, he and his beloved wife, Dottie, enjoyed traveling together, especially taking cruises up and down the Atlantic.
Ken was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Dorothy "Dottie" (nee Evers) and their adored son, Kenneth Denton, II, as well as his brothers, Myron and Alan Denton.
Ken is survived by his loving daughter, and light of his life, Debbie Denton of California along with her "children" Daisy, a Golden Retriever, and Benny, a mixed-breed Spaniel. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Chris (Robin) and Mark Denton, Alyson Graziano and Jennifer Felix, as well as many loving relatives and friends. Ken will be lovingly remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to his family.
The visitation will be held at Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave., Berkeley Heights, NJ on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 2-5 PM with a prayer service to begin at 4:30 PM. The burial will be held at St. Teresa's Cemetery on Monday, October 20th, at 10 AM.
To honor Ken's love of animals and nature, those who wish may make donations in lieu of flowers to St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center (www.sthuberts.org), Rancho Coastal Humane Society (https://rchumanesociety.org), or for the rescue and rehabilitation of penguins at SANCCOB in Capetown, South Africa (https://sanccob.co.za).

Yesterday

Ken and I were friends as kids back in Irvington, NJ, playing "hoops" in his driveway, stickball on Avon Avenue and so much more. We reconnected as adults years ago and he was the same "Ken" I knew back in Irvington; fun loving; great sense of humor; a devoted family man and unwavering Yankees fan! I will miss our emails, texts and occasional phone conversation. He truly was "one of the best". Love you Ken. Rest in eternal peace.
