Kenneth "Swinger" Nice

A pillar of the Somerton community was lost on July 7, 2025, when Kenneth "Swinger" Nice passed away. Born April 24, 1952, to Joseph Newlin Nice and Frederica (née Evans), Ken was a lifelong resident of Philadelphia making a substantial impact on countless lives whether through his 25-year career at SEPTA or serving as an aide at Swenson High School. His impression on the world could be felt on and off the Football field. Ken co-founded the Somerton All-Stars Semi-Pro Football team in 1973 and spent decades coaching and mentoring young athletes. He was a passionate and respected Football coach at Widener University, St. Joseph's Preparatory School, Jenkintown High School, and his alma mater, George Washington High School. He was known for his gregarious nature, big heart, and tough yet fair approach. If you looked closely, you could see the gleam of pride in his eyes at being a positive influence for generations of players. Ken's presence filled every room, and his guidance shaped countless lives. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, former students, and players. He is predeceased by his brother, Dennis J. Nice and survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Jane; his daughter, Stacie; his brother, Paul Sr. (Donna) nephew Paul Jr. (Renee); nieces Patricia Doak (Richard), Kimberly Schaeffer, and Karen Dziedzic (Joe); his godson, Dennis Michael; and many beloved grandnieces and grandnephews. Pa. 19154 10:00am to 11:45am followed by words and sharing 12:00pm Interment. PRIVATE.
