WINSTED –
Leo Vaccari was born 98 years ago in Winsted on May 2, 1926 along with his twin brother, Theodore. He attended St. Anthony's school and later Gilbert High School before joining the Navy during World War II. He served as a Radio Operator on an LCI.
He was a faithful member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and volunteered as an Usher for many years. Leo was also a volunteer firefighter for the Winsted Fire Aerial Ladder and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Winsted.
Upon returning from the Navy, he started his own painting and decorating business. He raised five children with his wife, Margaret (White) Vaccari who died in 2007 after a long illness.
He is survived by his five children, Peter Vaccari and wife Leslie, Jane Vaccari Hall and husband Gary, Leo Vaccari and wife Mary Ellen, Mike Vaccari and Ted Vaccari and wife Diane; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren along with sister-in-law, Rosemarie Vaccari and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Leo was predeceased by his parents, Severino and Adeline; three sisters, Virginia, Mary and Martha and five brothers, Richard, John, Robert, Theodore and David.
A Mass of Chrisitan burial will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at St. Joseph Church, Winsted at 11 AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted has care of arrangements.
Leo had an abundant love for his children and in lieu of sending flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Visit an online guestbook at montano-shea.com.
