Walters Funeral HomeIt is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lorena "Kay" Serafin, aged 77, on October 5, 2025. Born on February 27, 1948, in Galena Park, Texas, Kay lived a life filled with love, learning, and community service, embracing life's journey with passion and grace.
Kay was a highly educated and respected professional, earning a Doctorate in Education from the University of Houston and serving as the Director of Testing for Galena Park Independent School District. Throughout her career, she profoundly impacted the lives of countless students and educators, always striving for excellence in public education.A proud member of various organizations, including Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Gamma, and Phi Delta Kappa, Kay was also an active participant in her community. Her dedication extended to the Leon County Master Gardeners, where her love for gardening blossomed into a shared passion with her fellow members. She found joy in tending to her garden, nurturing both plants and relationships with equal care.
Her faith community at First United Methodist Church of Centerville provided her a space for spiritual growth, connection, and fellowship. Kay cherished her time spent with friends, often creating lasting memories through shared travel experiences. She loved to read, enjoying stories that transported her to different worlds, and found tranquility in fishing, relishing the serene moments spent by the water.Kay will be lovingly remembered as a compassionate soul whose heart was as big as her dreams. Her legacy will endure through the lives she touched, the friendships she nurtured, and the impact she made on her community. As we reflect on her life, let us celebrate her unwavering spirit and the happiness she brought to those around her.
Kay was preceded in death by both of her parents; Ray and Edna Benge and her husband, Jeff Miller. Surviving family members include son, Scott Serafin and wife, Amy, and their children, Alex and Jacob; step-daughter, Meredith Miller Perryman and husband, Josh, and their children, Abigail, Ellie, Jonathan and Jacob; step-son, Jeffrey Miller and wife, Charity, and their children, Mackenzie and Keegan; honorary son and daughter, Tommy and Wendy Neyland, and their children, Wade, Abigail, and Kaydence; and son, Chris Serafin.
A funeral service honoring Kay's life will be held 10 A.M., Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Following the service, Kay will be laid to rest next to her beloved, Jeff, in Concord Cemetery. A brief visitation will take place prior to the service from 8:30 A.M. to service time at the funeral home.
