Louis Dean Livingston, born on September 27, 1928, in
Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on January 18, 2025, in Arlington, Texas, surrounded by love and family. He was the fourth of six children born to George Washington Livingston and Angie Lee Connor. He was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, a son, Shawn Raynard Livingston, and a daughter, Sheilah Lanise Livingston.
Louis attended W.W. Yates School and graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1946-47. He furthered his education at Lincoln Junior College, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Missouri. A trailblazer from a young age, Louis became one of the first African American Eagle Scouts in Kansas City. As an adult he served as a District Officer of the Choutea District, Kansas City Area Council, BSA, and was the recipient of the Order of Merit award. His dedication to service and leadership extended throughout his life.
A devout man of faith, Louis was a longtime member of St. Stephen Baptist Church, where he served as the first Director of the Youth Center. Later, he joined Second Missionary Baptist Church in Grandview, Missouri. His community involvement was extensive, including life membership in the NAACP and years of service on its Executive Board.
The Masonic Organization was central to Louis' life for over seventy years. He was a member of Eureka Lodge #170 and Elect Ladies Chapter #15, serving as Worshipful Master and Worthy Patron and was elected to the office of Grand Worthy Patron of Harmony Grand Chapter in 1968. His contributions extended to the Royal Arch and Kansas City Consistory #7, where he achieved the rank of 33rd Degree Mason. He was a Past Commander-in-Chief and Past Overseer of the Works.
Louis will be remembered for his unwavering positivity; when asked how he was doing he answered with his signature phrase, "absolutely fantastic." He was a devoted husband to Wanda Beatty Livingston for sixty years and a loving father to Sharian Livingston, Sharice Livingston-Watford (Alan) and Kenneth Byrd (Michelle). His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Lanise Livingston, Summer Louiesia Copeland (Michael) Shawn Roth Livingston (Ali Marie) Hailey Marie Livingston, Simeon Louis Livingston-Holliday, Darrian Dean Livingston, Destiny Sheyanne Watford, Amanda Myrick (Brendon), Sam Miller, and Harold Holliday IV, great-grandchildren, Davontae McCutchen, Reaud Hall, Zyair Hall, Autumn Copeland, August Copeland, Kynson Livingston, Ariya Myrick, Brendon Myrick, Jr. great-great-grandchildren, Jaylen, Chase and Zyair, Sister, Angie Lee Echols (Clifford James ), Sister-in-law, Lucy Livingston, Daughters-in-law, Stacy and Jane, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
