Swanton - Mark Wayne Hojaboom a lifelong area resident passed away Tuesday May 28th, 2024, at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury, MA with his family at his side.
Born in St. Albans on April 20, 1961, the son of Sandra (Nelson) Bracey and Ronald Hojaboom, Hodgie was 63 years old.
On September 22nd, 2018, he married Lauri (Chates) Frenette, who survives him.
Hodgie was a 1979 graduate of Missisquoi Valley Union High School, then worked for the Grand Union store in St. Albans until he entered the United State Navy in 1981. In the Navy he was assigned to the nuclear submarine, USS Schnook, receiving his honorable discharge in 1984. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he had a lifelong career in communications, that culminated in owning his own company, Flying Dutchman Communications.
Mark was a longtime member of the Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion, Franklin Lodge # 4, F&AM, Fraternal Order of Eagles, #793, Burlington, Moose Lodge #1618 in South Burlington, served as a Swanton Selectman from 1995 - 2005 and a former member of St. Albans Moose Lodge # 1090.
Hodgie was a longtime and active member of St. Albans Lodge #1566, B.P.O.E., where he served as Exalted Ruler from 2014 - 2015 and again 2015 - 2016.
In 1989, he founded the "Monday Night Football" at his home and was well known for his homemade chicken wings and is still going into its 35th year.
Survivors include his wife, Lauri; his mother, Sandra Bracey and her husband, Ed; his father, Ronald Hojaboom; his siblings, Stephen Bracey and his companion, Sandra Raymond, Steve's children, Tyler and Zachary Bracey and Sandy's son, Taylor Raymond; Nicole Hilliker and her husband, Travis and their children, Anna, Grace and Ian Hilliker; Michelle Madore and her husband, Matthew and their children, Cody Gonzalez and Julia and Adam Madore and step-son, Travis Frenette and his companion, Catheryn St. Peter and step-brother, Scott Guptill and his partner, Vickie Allen and Eric Wright and his wife, Dora and step-sister, Kristi Wright; his mother-in-law, Harriet Chates and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Paula and Chuck Barry.
Hodgie is also survived by his extended family and many close friends, too many to mention.
Mark is predeceased by his stepmother, Jacqueline Hojaboom; maternal grandparents, Richard and Leota Nelson and paternal grandparents, William and Ruth Hojaboom; father-in-law, George Chates; uncle, James Nelson and aunt, Candace E. Malloy and her husband, James.
A Celebration of Hodgie's life will be on Saturday, July 20th, 2024, with military honors at 1:00 PM and continuing until 5:00 PM at the American Legion Hall, 100 Parah Drive, St. Albans.
