Marlene (Magalene) Minna (Charlotte) Rauschenplat, age 90, of Myrtle Beach, passed away suddenly on August 6, 2024 at her home.
She was born December 2, 1933 in Ahlten, Germany, a daughter to the late Rudolf & Elise Shulze Dux.
In 1956, Marlene set out alone on the steamboat Italia across the Atlantic from Hamburg to New York to visit her sister and aunt who lived in Union, New Jersey. While there, she met her soon-to become husband, Heinz Carl Rauschenplat, who convinced her to stay in the U.S. The next year, on March 4, 1957, they were married and were happily married for 40+ years until Heinz's death in 1998.
Marlene went to trade school in Germany to become a seamstress, and she worked in bridal shops in both Germany and the United States, doing intricate beading and lace work on wedding gowns until their only child, Carla was born. Marlene continued to be a devoted homemaker her entire life, and in her spare time continued to sew for the family, loved baking, gardening and frequent travel to Europe. She proudly made her U.S. citizenship November 13, 1970.
Besides her parents and her husband, Marlene was preceded in death by sister, Carla Gurgun; brother, Paul Dux; brother-in-law Dr. Melih Gurgun; and son-in-law, Larry Schlitzer.
She is survived by her daughter, Carla Rauschenplat and her husband Emanuel Maldonado; grandson, Dr. Steven Schlitzer and his wife Breanna; step-grandchildren, Thomas Maldonado and Justine Demirkol; step-great grandchildren, Evren Demirkol and Emre Demirkol; niece, Mine Gurgun and nephew, Dr. Mehmet Gurgun; nephew Ralf Dux; nephew Uwe Rauschenplat and his wife Christina; niece Astrid Janowski and her husband Detlef; and all the many children and grand- children who reside in Germany.
A memorial service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, September 20, 2024 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. inurnment will be in Rochester, NY spring of 2025 are currently being planned.
