In the early morning of June 30th 2022, Marty lost a long fought battle for his health.
Marty was a fighter. He spent his entire life fighting. He fought for his health, for his family's survival, for truth, for science and education, for equality, and for the rights of the workers of the world. He should never have had to fight so hard but he never thought twice about it, and he was well respected by everyone that he fought for and with.
He was a passionate Trekkie since childhood and believed that humans could someday experience an existence more similar to life aboard a Federation exploration vessel, where the search for strange new worlds, new life and new civilization took priority. A world where, to quote Captain Picard "People are no longer obsessed with the accumulation of things", where "we've eliminated hunger, want, the need for possessions", and in which "we've grown out of our infancy." Above all else, he wanted to help create this sort of a future and he fought every day of his life to "make it so."
Other than Star Trek and the fight for the working class, Marty loved the Grateful Dead, Skrillex, Deadmau5, Pink Floyd, The Christmas Story and Monty Python. He studied journalism and media studies at Delta College and was a skilled writer who could identify almost any font. He participated in Civil War reenactment and had a love for history and building miniature air/spacecraft models. He loved his family dearly (including his dogs Rosa and Clara).
He would understand our need to grieve, but would also hope for us to find our way past it quickly so that we could get back to focusing on each other and the needs of the many who still live. He would want us to celebrate and honor him by continuing the fight that he dedicated his life to.
Marty is survived by his parents Thomas and Barbara Schreader, his wife Lisa, daughter, son in law and granddaughter Nicole, Brad and Lyra Tarratt, his brother, sister in law and nephew Mason and Alicia Schreader and her son Keaton, Aunt Connie and uncles Dave, Martin, and Paul and the many many working people whose lives he touched throughout his life.
Services will be held at Case Funeral Home - 4480 Mackinaw Rd. in Saginaw, MI on Wed. July 13th starting at 11:30 a.m. with procession to Roselawn Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Friends may visit with the family from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to help with final expenses.
