Mary Ellen Hersberger, 93, of Columbus, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at her residence in Columbus, Indiana. She had been a long-time resident of Hamilton County, White River Township.

She was born on December 11, 1930, in Morris, Illinois to Oscar Lawrence and Beulah Mae (Ogden) Cannon. 

She was a cheerleader and graduate of Fishers High School. She loved sewing, and made her kids' cheerleading uniforms and wedding dresses. She was a homemaker, farmed with Bud, and had been a cook for Walnut Grove School. She had also previously been the White River Township Assessor and worked the voting poles for many years.

She loved dog racing and was secretary/treasurer 15 years for the Midwest Circuit Field Trials. She and Bud competed successfully for over 60 years.

Mary is survived by three daughters, Jeannie (husband, Kelly) Simpson, Linda (husband, Garry) Hodge and Connie (husband, Mike) Thomas; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a few great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Meredith Leslie "Bud" Hersberger; her parents; two brothers, Harold Cannon and Donald Cannon; and a grandson, Isaac Simpson. 

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Bozell Funeral Homes, Lapel Chapel, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051. Cremation will follow with burial of ashes at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis at a later date. 

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Thursday, at the funeral home.
