Mary Ann Hmelak, 83, a lifelong resident of Shickshinny, PA died on December 21, 2024 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born November 9, 1941 in Shickshinny, PA, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Freda (Gensel) Steeber.
Mary was a graduate of Northwest High School. She worked at Acme Markets for 35 years and retired in 1996.
On October 8, 1966, Mary married George Hmelak and together they celebrated 58 loving years of marriage.
She was a member of St. Mary's / Holy Spirit Parish, Mocanaqua.
Mary enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and taking trips to the casino.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents are, one sister-in-law, Caroline Wenner and two brothers, Edward and his wife Mary Ann Steber and Paul Steber and his first wife Margaret.
Surviving, are two sons: Mark Hmelak and his wife Mary of Berwick, and Thomas Hmelak, of Pittston; three brothers: Michael Steeber and his wife Pat, of Shickshinny, Andrew Steeber and his wife Sharon, of Mocanaqua and Leonard Steeber, of Shickshinny; one sister: Irene Lukashewski and her husband Joe of Wapwallopen; two sister's-in-law: Connie Steber, of Arizona and Barbara Kubasek and her husband Thomas, of Mocanaqua; three grandchildren: Joshua Hmelak and his wife Brittany, of Pottstown, Justin Hmelak, of Danville and Crysta Pierce and her husband Jared, of Berwick; three great-grandchildren: Elijah Hmelak, Waylon Hmelak and Everly Pierce and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's / Holy Spirit Parish, 130 Rectory Road, Mocanaqua, with the Rev. Philbert Takyi-Nketiah, her pastor, officiating.
Burial will be held privately in the Sorber Cemetery, Reyburn.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mayo Funeral Home, Inc., Shickshinny.
