Obituary of Mary J. Luddy
Mary Joan Luddy, 82, of Marstons Mills, MA, died Thursday, December 5, 2024 in Kingston, MA after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Mary was born in New Britain, CT on October 4, 1942, the daughter of the late Joseph and Nellie Novak. She graduated from New Britain High School and received her Bachelor's degree in biology and general science from Central Connecticut State University.
Mary began her career as a middle school biology and science teacher at Irving Robbins Middle School in Farmington, CT. Afterwards, she sold real estate, became the first woman manager for The Hartford Courant's Avon office, and offered administrative and accounting support at Uniroyal and then the Southbury, CT Town Hall before retiring. Mary was a private person who enjoyed spending time with her daughter and late husband. She found joy in studying science, watching Wheel of Fortune, being near the ocean, and doing word puzzles. Toward the end of her life, she found comfort in the residents and staff at Wingate Assisted Living in Kingston where she would listen to live music, watch movies, and eat meals with her dinner friends. To those that knew and loved her, she was a strong, independent woman who offered love and support.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Jennifer A. Colburn of Plymouth, MA, and her sister, Dorothy Ann Safalow of West Hartford, CT. She is predeceased by her husband, William J. Luddy, formerly of Marstons Mills.
Mary will be interred at the Bourne National Cemetery with her late husband. As per her wishes, there will be no service.
In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the MSPCA in Centerville, MA in her honor.
