Mary Eileen Mengarelli, 79, of Huntley passed away Friday evening, March 17, 2023, at The View at Johnson Creek, WI.
She was born November 28, 1943, in Chicago the daughter of Frank and Eileen (Spellman) Burchby. She married James C. Mengarelli on February 3, 1968, in Chicago.
Eileen grew up in Sauganash, Chicago and was a student and parishioner at Queen of All Saints Basilica. After attending Barat College, Eileen became an elementary school teacher at Queen of All Saints Chicago. She also held proud positions as a social worker and then as a customer service representative. While Eileen was raising her sons, she was an active member of the Women's Club of Northbrook and PTA District 27.
Upon Jim's retirement, Eileen looked forward to spending the winter with her husband Jim in Naples, Florida for almost 20 years. Her main goal in life was to treat others the way "I want to be treated" and "sometimes it worked", she would joke. She had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh either "with her or at her". Eileen was a proud and loving grandmother to Ava, Vincent, and Carter.
May you rest in peace.
She is survived by her sons, Steven (Molly), and Robert (Valerie); her grandchildren, Ava, Vincent, and Carter; brothers, Chris (Carol) Lambert, Tom (Rita) Lambert, and Bob (Beth) Lambert; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, James on October 30, 2022.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM on Saturday, March 25 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road in Huntley. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 24 from 3 to 6 PM at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main Street in Huntley with a wake service at 6 PM and then will continue on Saturday at the church from 9 until the 10 AM mass.
